Women’s Soccer loses to Fitchburg State 3-0

North Adams, MA- MCLA dropped a hard fought 3-0 decision to league leading Fitchburg State tonight at Shewcraft Field. With the result Fitchburg State improves to 7-4-2 (4-0-1 MASCAC) while MCLA drops to 2-8-2 (0-4-1 MASCAC).

The match began with Fitchburg State applying most of the offensive pressure and in the 11th minute they would get on the board. Ashley Porter (Upton, MA) would head a deep Falcon throw-in by Jessica St. George (Dracut, MA) toward goal which was chased down by Maddie Hippert (Leicester, MA). Hippert was able to beat MCLA keeper Jillian Currier (Troy, NY) short side and give the Falcons an early 1-0 lead.

Though unable to capitalize, the rest of the half was all MCLA. An Eva Bassallo (Petersburgh, NY) header from a Sarah Tomczyk (Plainville, CT) corner kick nearly found the top right corner at the 24-minute mark but Falcon keeper Skyla Vaudo (Burlington, MA) was able to make the save.

In the 31st minute Claud Bresett (Adams, MA) would send in Anna Lewis (North Monmouth, ME) on the left side but again Vaudo would snuff out the attempt. In the 40th minute Bresett would send in Natalie Rich (Waterford, NY) up the right side, but Rich was unable to get enough steam on the shot and Vaudo collected another save.

Fitchburg State would reassert itself in the second half taking nine of the first ten shots.  Their 10th and 11th shots just over two minutes apart, would result in Falcon goals. In the 70th minute Elizabeth Reed (Fitchburg, MA) would put home the rebound from an Adriana Westcott (Sayreville, NJ) shot and in the 72nd minute a Wescott cross would deflect in off a Trailblazer defender to give Fitchburg State a 3-0 lead.

Fitchburg State goalkeepers Skyla Vaudo (Burlington, MA) and Allison Gough would split duty for the shutout. Vaudo would stop 4 Trailblazer shots in the first half and earn the win improving to 3-1-1. MCLA keeper Jillian Currier would make 8 saves but takes the loss falling to 2-8-2.

The Falcons would enjoy advantages in shots (21-7) and corner kicks (6-2).

Fitchburg State will next take the pitch Monday at 7pm when they visit Roger Williams in a nonconference match. MCLA will also step outside the league in their next match as they visit the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Science next Wednesday at 4pm
