WORCESTER, Mass. – Simmons lacrosse (2-3) fell to non-conference Worcester State University (3-1), 16-10, on the road, Wednesday afternoon.

The Lancers were quick to jump in front scoring a minute into the game but senior attacker Cameron Richards even up the contest with her six goal a minute later. However, Worcester State responded with six straight unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead. With a minute and a half remaining in the first stanza, the Sharks took advantage of a player-up opportunity with Richards connecting with junior Maddie Desimio-Maloney to make it a 7-2 game. 

Worcester State scored late in the first quarter to go back in front by six, 8-2, which they took into the locker room after a scoreless second quarter. 

When the teams emerged from the locker room at the start of the third quarter, the Lancers extended their lead to 10-2. But the Sharks were not going to be denied. Sophomore Campbell Crane connected with Riley Wasiuk for the third Sharks goal before junior Frida Turriza converted a free position opportunity. However, the Lancers offense was too potent, outscoring the Sharks, 6-3 in the quarter.

In the final quarter of play, the Sharks offense came alive and outscored the Lancers, 5-2. Turriza opened the period with her second goal of the game. Senior attacker Julia Chausse registered a goal and an assist in the final quarter, as she connected with Campbell Crane on a player-up opportunity with seven minutes left. A minute later Turriza buried her third goal of the game on a player-down to pull the Sharks to within seven. But it was not enough as the Lancers stayed on top for the 16-10 win.
