Women's Volleyball: Barnes leads Fisher over Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, MASS. - The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team won the contest this evening over Fitchburg State University, 3-0 inside the Parkinson Gymnasium. The win sends the Falcons to 13-5. Fitchburg State slides to 3-9.

Senior Macy Barnes (Duarte, Calif.) led the offensive effort for the Falcons having 10 kills and 7 digs. Senior Aya Al-Juraishi (Walnut, Calif.) and freshman Alicia Tkach both added 4 kills a piece. Sophomore Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) also chipped in with 18 digs in the win for Fisher.

Fitchburg State was paced by freshman Stephanie Sardella (Billerica, Mass.) with 10 kills and 15 digs and sophomore Samantha Mirra (Burlington, Mass.) provided help with 8 kills and 4 digs. Junior Emily Gelinas (Westfield, Mass.) contributed 15 assists and 6 digs. Senior Meredith Taylor (Reading, Mass.) also chipped in with 11 assists and 7 digs in the loss for the Falcons.

Both teams will be back in conference action when they return to the court this week when they travel to Curry College. Fisher will play them on Thursday at 6:30 pm while Fitchburg State will be facing them on Saturday with an 11am start.
