Lesley falls to Westfield State 72-51

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In a challenging match up with Westfield State College, the Lesley University men's basketball was defeated 72-51 to drop their record to 3-6 (1-0 North Atlantic Conference).

The Lynx had a solid game from Joe Chatman (Boston, Mass.) who hit 7-of-16 shots from the field including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc for a total of 20 points.  He added six rebounds, two steals, and one assist in the losing effort.  Malcolm Andrews (Medford, Mass.), the only other Lesley player in double-figures, hit 50% of his shots for 10 points.  Zach Rocha (New Bedford, Mass.) gave 23 strong minutes off the bench as he contributed six points, three rebounds, and three assists.

For the Owls, junior guard Dave Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass.) scored a game-high 27 points as he hit all four of his three-point attempts and was 7-of-9 from the free throw line.  Jaehnig was a terror on defense as well, nabbing three steals and blocking two shots.  Westfield State also had double-digit efforts from Drew Pereira (Seekonk, Mass.) and Ryan Mauer (Pittsfield, Mass.) who had 16 and 11 points, respectively.  Junior forward Matt Badjo (Worcester, Mass.) controlled the boards grabbing nine rebounds, seven of them defensive.

Westfield State set the tone for the game in the first seven minutes as they raced out to a 17-4 advantage, courtesy of nine quick points for Jaehnig and eight from Pereira.

The Lynx closed the lead to just 10 going into the second half, but the Owls opening up the new period with another impressive run outscoring their opponent 14-4.  Lesley was unable to get the offense going late in the second half and suffered their sixth loss of the season.

With the victory, Westfield State College improved their record to 6-3.  The Owls next game will be on January 4 against Mt. St. Vincent while Lesley will finish up 2008 with an away NAC contest against Wheelock College on December 13.
