Framingham State Earns Number One Seed in 2020 MASCAC Women's Basketball Tournament
For the first time in school history, Framingham State earns the number one seed in the 2020 MASCAC Women's Basketball Tournament which begins on Tuesday, February 25 with the quarterfinal round.

Beginning on Tuesday, the quarterfinal round features #4 Bridgewater State hosting #5 Salem State at 5:30 pm while #3 Worcester State entertains #6 Fitchburg State at 7 pm. In the semifinal round, the winner of Worcester/Fitchburg face second seed Westfield State on Thursday, February 27 at 5:30 pm then top seed Framingham State plays the winner of Bridgewater/Salem at 6 pm.
Both semifinal winners will face off on Saturday, February 29 at the highest remaining seed to determine the tournament champion and the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament.
Earning the regular season title and first round bye with a perfect 12-0 MASCAC record is Framingham State. The Rams are led by duo Mary Kate O'Day and Emily Velozo who both ended the regular season averaging 17.9 points per game, second best in the league. O'Day also averaged 8.5 rebounds with the fifth best shooting percentage at 46.1 percent along with 78 assists, 34 steals and 15 blocks. Velozo led the conference in three-point percentage at 44.7 and fourth in field goal percentage at 48.9 percent with 95 rebounds, 72 assists and 26 steals.
Taking home the other first round bye with the second seed is Westfield State. The Owls finished the league campaign with a 10-2 mark. Melissa Gray closed out the regular season atop the MASCAC in points per game with 20.8, steals with 115, fourth in three-point percentage at 36.3, eighth in total rebounds with 178 and ninth in rebounds per game 7.1.
Landing the third seed is Worcester State. The Lancers were 8-4 at the conclusion of conference play. Leading the team is Mya Mosley who averaged 16.2 points per game, 5.3 rebounds while adding 77 assists, 57 steals and 37 blocks.
Bridgewater State is the fourth seed after going 6-6 during the MASCAC schedule. Destiny Fitzgerald averaged 13.6 points and 8.4 rebounds with a 50.5 field goal percentage which are in the top six of the league. She also collected 42 blocks, 26 steals and 24 assists this season.
Finishing out this year's tournament field is Salem State and Fitchburg State with the fifth and sixth seed. The Vikings had three conference wins in 2019-20. Courtney Paschal averaged 15 points and 5.4 rebounds this season while shooting 35.8 percent from the three point line and tallying 16 steals, 14 assists and eight blocks. For the Falcons who also had three wins, Angelina Marazzi averaged 15.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while also dishing out 62 assists and making 38 steals.
At last season's MASCAC Tournament, second seed Westfield State won their fourth straight tournament title with a 84-73 win over top seed Worcester State to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
