Fitchburg State Men, Worcester State Women Look for Third Straight Title at 2019 MASCAC Cross Country Championship

Fitchburg State men and Worcester State women look to retain their conference titles when the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship is contested on Saturday, November 2.
Hosted by Worcester State, the race will be run at Moore State Park in Paxton, Mass. Up first at 11 am, the men will complete an 8k with the women following at noon with a 5k. After both races, awards will be given to the top two teams in each gender, the top overall individual runner and rookie for men and women along with the top 10 finishers on each side.
At last year's championship for the men, The Falcons with 46 points narrowly beat out second place finisher Bridgewater State with 50 points. Westfield State was right behind in third with 52 points while Worcester State came in fourth with 78 points. Framingham State was next in fifth with 166 points. Massachusetts Maritime and MCLA rounded out the field in sixth and seventh with 177 and 193 points, respectively.
Trevor Wysong led the way for Bridgewater State as the top overall finisher with a time of 27:17 to earn MASCAC Runner of the Year honors. Worcester State's Andrew Fottler came in seventh with a time of 28:11 to take home MASCAC Rookie of the Year honors as the top first time performer.
For the women at the 2018 meet, the Lancers finished with 38 points to take home the top spot while Westfield State was in second with 48 points. Bridgewater State came in third with 89 points and Framingham State not far behind in fourth with 93. Massachusetts Maritime was next in fifth with 142 points while Fitchburg State and MCLA rounded out the field in sixth and seventh with 153 and 204 points, respectively.
Elisabeth Olson led the way for Worcester State with a first place overall all finish with a time of 20:03 in the 5k race to earn 2018 MASCAC Runner of the Year honors. Amy O'Sullivan from Westfield State crossed the line fifth with a time of 20:47 in the 5k race to earn 2018 MASCAC Rookie of the Year.
