Field Hockey Falls at UMD, 3-0

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Sophomore Kylie Dias(Fall River, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist to back junior Katelyn Banalewicz's (Fall River, Mass.) second shutout of the season, as UMass Dartmouth notched a 3-0 Little East Conference field hockey victory over Westfield State Tuesday evening at Cressy Field.

Senior Elliana Stormwind(Littleton, Mass.) gave the host Corsairs (5-8, 3-5 LEC) the only tally they would need 1:39 into the match on a deflection in front of the cage, and sophomore Lydia Stormwind (Littleton, Mass.) extended that margin to 2-0 less than eight minutes later on a Dias feed.  That score held up until the final frame when Dias knocked in a pass from junior Mikella Da Silva with 9:34remaining in the contest, and Banalewicz took care of the rest by making four saves to pick up her fifth win and second clean sheet.

Junior Katie Vamosi(Easton, Mass.) made six stops in the setback for the visiting Owls (4-11, 1-7 LEC), as UMass Dartmouth outshot Westfield State by a 12-9 margin overall (10-5 on goal) and held a 7-3 edge in penalty corners for the evening.

UMass Dartmouth heads to Fitchburg, Mass. on Saturday morning to square off with Fitchburg State in a Little East Conference clash beginning at 11:00 am, while Westfield State travels to Castleton, Vt. on Saturday afternoon for a Little East matchup with Castleton that begins at 4:00 pm.
