Ice Hockey Drops OT Heartbreaker to Franklin Pierce

Framingham, Mass. – Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey scored in the final second of regulation to force overtime and again with just six seconds remaining in overtime to defeat Framingham State by a score of 3-2 in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Loring Arena.  

THE BASICS:

- Records: Framingham State (3-4-1), Franklin Pierce (6-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The visitors got on the board in the final minutes of the first period when Conor Foley finished off a one-timer from Cody Rumsey on the man advantage to skate into the first intermission leading 1-0.  

  • Midway through the second period the Rams knotted the score when Cameron Lindsay scored on the breakaway inside the right post after the Rams won the faceoff shorthanded.  

  • On the same Ravens powerplay Sam Larkin broke off another breakaway that he was able to sneak through the five-hole of the FPU goalie Brogan McDonald.  

  • The Rams took a penalty with just over four minutes to play in regulation, but Trevor Stenberg made a couple big stops to keep the Rams in the lead.  

  • With a little over two minutes to play FPU called time out and pulled their goalie. In the final seconds of regulation Stephen Jacobs finished a setup from Conor Foley as the horn sounded. The referees ruled the goal to count and assessed FPU a two-minute minor to start in overtime.  

  • With just six seconds left in the overtime, Chris Stevenson finished a backhander after a pass from Conor Foley to end the game.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • Sophomore goalie Brogan McDonald made 27 saves in the win for the Ravens.  

  • Trevor Stenberg made 24 stops in goal for the Rams.  

  • Franklin Pierce was 1-for-4 on the powerplay while the Rams were 0-for-3 despite scoring shorthanded twice.  

UP NEXT: 

The Rams will return to the ice next Thursday when they host Plymouth State in MASCAC action at 7:30pm. The Ravens travel to Castleton for a non-conference tilt on Friday evening at 7pm.
