Ben Harrison Homers Twice as Baseball Surges Past Framingham State

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. (March 5, 2020) – The Western New England University baseball team defeated Framingham State, 12-5, in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.

Top Performers
Sophomore Ben Harrison (Newtown, Conn.) went 3-for-5, hitting two home runs and getting five runs batted in for the Golden Bears. Freshman Vincent Caccavale (East Hartford, Conn.) hit one home run and had five runs batted in. Junior Clay Tucker (Chelmsford, Mass.) threw three scoreless innings with five strikeouts. 

Senior Andrew Curtis (Dracut, Mass.) had two hits and two runs batted in for the Rams. 

Game Review
The Golden Bears got on the board first in the top of the third inning when Harrison hit a three-run home run. The Rams got on the board for the first time when senior Anthony Herman (Stratford, Conn.) walked with the bases loaded.

Western New England went on to score five runs in the top of the sixth inning. Caccavale hit a grand slam and Harrison hit a solo home run, his second home run of the game, just two batters later to give the Golden Bears an 8-1 lead.

After the Rams grabbed another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, Western New England responded by scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Caccavale was walked with the bases loaded, senior Zac Nussbaum (Bridgewater, Mass.) followed with a two-run single to center field, and then Harrison stepped up in the next at-bat and hit a single that sent Caccavale home. The Rams grabbed three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, but it wasn't enough.

Western New England (2-1) travel down the road to Springfield College on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader. Framingham State (0-1) will travel back to NEBC to take on Lasell on Saturday afternoon.
