Falcons Soar Over Trailblazers, 56-41

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Basketball team defeated the Trailblazers of MCLA, 56-41 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Parkinson Gymnasium.

 The Basics

How It Happened

1st quarter

MCLA took a 4-0 advantage on a pair of buckets from senior Kylah Langston (East Hartford, Conn.) before Fitchburg State knotted the score (4-4) as senior Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman Lindsay McDonald (Stoughton, Mass.) connected on baskets.

With the score tied at 9-9, the Green and Gold grabbed the lead (13-9) with Marazzi and senior Catherine Coppinger (Boston, Mass.) sinking two free-throws each, but the Trailblazers cut the deficit to 13-11 when Langston notched a layup.

2nd quarter

Fitchburg State upped its edge t0 18-14 on a jumper from junior Mishelle Logie (Attleboro, Mass.) and a trey by classmate Payton Holmes (Carver, Mass.). MCLA would tie the contest (18-18) on an Erika Ryan (Clifton Park, N.Y.) jumper before the Falcons closed out the half on back-to-back three-pointers from Holmes and Marazzi for the 24-18 lead going into the break.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, both teams traded treys as Langston connected for MCLA, while Marazzi knocked one down for Fitchburg State (27-21). The Falcons went on an 11-2 run late in the stanza, capped by a McDonald layup for the 43-32 margin.

 4th quarter

The hosts upped their lead (49-34) on a free-throw by Coppinger and a Logie layup before MCLA countered with a jumper from sophomore Olivia Pressley (Cobleskill, N.Y.). The Green and Gold would secure the victory though as McDonald netted a layup, resulting in the 56-41 final

  • Falcons were led by Marazzi with a game-best 23 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals
  • Holmes added eight points, five caroms, three assists and one steal for Fitchburg State
  • For the Trailblazers, Langston finished with a team-leading 13 points, two boards, three assists and one steal
  • Ryan chipped in with eight points, six boards, one assist, two steals and six blocks for MCLA
