Rally Falls Short for Women's Soccer Against Salve Regina

BRISTOL, R.I. - A furious second half rally fell just short for the Worcester State University women's soccer team on Thursday afternoon, as the Lancers fell 5-4 to Salve Regina University at Reynolds Field.

With the loss, Worcester State falls to 0-2-1 on the season.

Trailing 5-1 with just over six minutes remaining on the clock, the Lancers scored three goals in just over two and a half minutes to cut the deficit to 5-4. Over the final 3:31 however, Worcester State was unable to register a shot, and the game ended with Salve Regina escaping with the victory. 

Junior Tayla O'Leary (Salem, Mass.) scored a pair of goals during the late surge, with assists credited to Kass Liquori (Enfield, Conn.) and Hailey Skowronski (Douglas, Mass.), while Becca Lashua (Gardner, Mass.) also scored during the rally.

Junior Talia Borci (Worcester, Mass.) scored for the Lancers during the first half of play.

Goalkeeper Tori Socci (Blackstone, Mass.) took the loss for Worcester State, recording five saves in 42 minutes of action. In 48 minutes of relief, Jill Zinkus (Grafton, Mass.) made six saves to get the no decision. 

Worcester State will return to action at home on Saturday, hosting Clark University at 11 a.m.
