The Details

  • Less than two minutes into the contest, Peloso received a great look from Collins who then buried his shot past Valtonen for the quick 1-0 Skyhawks advantage. However, with just a little under four minutes left in the first (03:20), Collins tied the contest when he snuck the puck past FitzPatrick as both sides headed into the second period tied at one.
  • The second period saw fast-paced action as both sides combined for 17 shots and five goals. The Skyhawks ended up outshooting the Owls in the second by a 12-5 margin. As for the scoring, Nehmer netted his first goal of the season when he corralled the rebound off Talarico's shot. Nearly 10 minutes into the second, Peloso netted his second goal of the contest which gave Stonehill a 3-1 advantage.
  • Despite the two-goal advantage, Westfield State responded with two goals within two minutes each other off the sticks of Finegan (11:07) and Carbone (13:34) which evened the game at three. However, with less than five minutes remaining in the second (16:07), Schwenninger took an Ireland pass and found the back of the net and gave the Skyhawks a one-goal lead (4-3) headed into the third.
  • As both teams pushed each other for the opening moments of the final period, McElaney gave Stonehill their second two-goal lead (5-3). But like the second, the Owls again came back from two-goal deficit and tied the game at five going into overtime.
  • In the extra period, the Owls had plenty of great looks but each shot was stopped by FitzPatrick and kept the Purple and White within striking distance. Stonehill had a great chance for the win when Ireland drew a Westfield tripping penalty in front of the Owls net for a penalty shot. Ireland took the penalty shot and after a couple of moves on Valtonen, the Westfield State netminder made the big-time stop.
  • After overtime, the two teams played an exhibition shootout after the tie, with the Owls coming away with the "shootout win" as Carbone netted his shootout try. Despite Westfield State winning the shootout, the game officially goes into the record books as a tie.
