Women's Basketball Downs MCLA in MASCAC Action

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's basketball team was led by a combined 41 points from seniors Emily Velozo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.) as the Rams cruised to a 78-47 victory over MCLA in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Athletic Center.

THE BASICS:

- Records: Framingham State (11-5, 3-0 MASCAC), MCLA (2-12, 0-4 MASCAC)

Location:  Athletic Center – Framingham, Mass.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • O'Day led all scorers with a game-best 21 points on 7-of-10 from the floor including 5-of-6 from behind the arc.  O'Day completed the double double in the game with 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.
  • Velozo finished the game with 20 points on 7-of-13 from the floor including 5-of-8 from long range. Velozo added five rebounds, four assists and a steal.
  • The Rams shot 48% from the floor in the game and 39% from long range.
  • MCLA was led on the offensive end by nine points, seven rebounds and three assists from Erika Ryan.
  • Maddie Teta chipped in with eight points and three assists, while Shannon Carney added seven points off the bench for the Trailblazers. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Rams jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead just under four minutes into the game and extended the lead to as many as 19 in the frame before taking a 31-14 lead after one. The Rams connected on 6-of-10 from behind the arc in the opening quarter.
  • The Rams maintained and added to the the sizeable lead in the second quarter and led 47-23 at the half.  Velozo and O'Day combined for 24 points for the Rams in the first half.
  • The Rams continued to build on the lead in the third quarter before sealing the victory.

The Rams are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Salem State for a MASCAC clash at 5 p.m., while the Trailblazers travel to Worcester State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
