The men’s basketball team lost to Westfield State, 81-77, in an opening round game of the Gordon College Tournament on Friday night in Wenham, Massachusetts.

The Bearcats will next play in the third place game scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, November 21, at 6:00 pm against Maine-Maritime.  

Baruch led 50-49 with 13:57 left in the game, but Westfield State went on an 11-1 run in the next five minutes to lead 60-51.

Westfield would grow the lead to double-digits (67-57) with 5:36 left, but Baruch made a late rally to get as close as 75-71 with just over a minute remaining.

Westfield State closed out the victory with four free throws to seal the 81-77 final score.

Chris Beauchamp led five players in double-figure scoring this evening with 19 points.

During the first half, senior forward George Kunkel scored the 1,000th point of his career to join 16 past players on the prestigious milestone scoring list for men’s basketball at Baruch. Kunkel finished the evening with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Lionel Hilaire scored 12 points and notched four steals.

Anthony Griffin led Westfield State from the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with a game-high 26 points (11-12 free throws).
