How It Happened

SUNY scored first 3:30 in to the game on a Deleva goal from Fabiani. The scored stayed 1-0 Privateers for the next 13 minutes until Deleva made it 2-0 on a free position shot in a man-up situation. The Buccaneers erased the shutout and cut the lead in half just inside the 10-minute mark of the first half on Sullivan's first goal of the night on a pass from Calvert. Inside six minutes, Deleva and Sullivan each scored again with 5:30 and 1:40 remaining on the clock at the time of their respective goals. With the score 3-2 SUNY, Johnson scored with a minute left in the half on a free position shot to give her team a two-goal, 4-2, lead going in to the halftime break.

The Buccaneers came out shooting to start the second half at a cold and windy Clean Harbors Stadium though they didn't break through until nine minutes had expired in the half. Then, in a matter of 35 seconds, Deely scored with 21:45 on the clock and Seggelin, from Balentine, netted her goal with 21:10 left in regulation to tie the game at 4-4. SUNY went on to grab momentum back and score three unanswered to grab their biggest lead of the night, a three-goal, 7-4 advantage with 13 minutes left in the second half. Sullivan scored for the Bucs to cut the deficit to two with 10:45 left in the game. Thanks to stout defense, a couple yellow cards against the Bucs and some well-placed shots, the Privateers went on to score three more goals unanswered over a six-minute period to take a 10-5 lead. Sullivan and Blumenthal put two more on the board for Maritime assisting on each other's goals to get back within three goals but the seven mark would be as high as they would go. SUNY grabbed another goal with 38 seconds left in the game to take an 11-7 lead, the eventual final score.

The Buccaneers will be back at Clean Harbors Stadium on Sunday morning at 11am to take on Maine Maritime in the final game of the Maritime Cup.
