Politi makes seven saves for Fitchburg State in non-conference setback

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the Pilgrims of New England College in non-conference action this afternoon from Elliot Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 0, New England College 1

Records: Fitchburg State (2-6-0) | New England College (3-4-0)

How It Happened

Fitchburg State nearly grabbed the lead early in the first half as freshman Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.) and junior Shannon McCarthy (Chicopee, Mass.) fired shots on frame, but New England College keeper Allie Stoddart (Charlestown, N.H.) turned aside both shots

The Pilgrims best scoring chance in the frame was by sophomore Molly Bieksha (Norton, Mass.), who had a pair of quality shots on target, but Falcon goaltender Dania Politi (Springfield, Mass.) matched Stoddart save for save, to keep the contest scoreless through 45 minutes of play.

Following the break, New England College opened the scoring in the 51st minute of play when freshman Felicia Glanberg (Stockholm, Sweden) collected a loose ball from 20 yards out and lofted a shot into the back of the net for her first collegiate tally to make the score 1-0.

The Green and Gold threatened with roughly nine minutes remaining in regulation as junior McKenzie Tenney (Orange, Mass.) blasted a shot, but Stoddart corralled the ball, resulting in the 1-0 final.
