Ice Hockey Falls to Vikings 4-1

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State ice hockey team was defeated by Salem State by a score of 4-1 in MASCAC action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena in Salem.

THE BASICS:

- Score:  Framingham State 1, Salem State 4

- Records:  Framingham State (0-6, 0-5 MASCAC), Salem State (1-4, 1-3 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Salem  State's Michael Shippee and Derek Scoggins each scored a goal and an assist and Salem State goalie Sean Cleary made 30 saves in the win for the Vikings
  • Matt Yianacopolus broke a scoreless tie with a goal at 16:04 of the first as his wrist shot beat Blake Carlson at 16:04 of the opening period. 
  • Michael Shippee set up Spencer DeRidder with a one-timer as Salem State increased their lead to 2-0, 11:56 into the second as Cleary came up with multiple key saves to keep the Rams off the scoreboard.
  • Shippee increased the lead to 3-0 with a power play strike early in the third before Sören Colstrup ended the shutout with a Rams' goal at the 5:53 mark. Derek Scoggins iced the game with his first of the year later in the period as Salem State skated to a three-goal win.  
  • Carlson recorded 30 saves in the loss for Framingham State.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host to Franklin Pierce in non-conference action at Loring Arena starting at 7:30pm.
