Softball Sweeps Fitchburg State with 5-2 & 9-6 Wins

How It Happened
Game One
The Falcons opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as junior Lundyn Forcier (Woonsocket, RI) delivered a single to center field that scored Molly Grass (Rockland, Mass.) who had reached on an error to open the game.
The Saints put four runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Playing small ball as both Kiana Hinson (Whitter, Calif) and Maegan Amsler (Hanover, Mass) delivered RBI sacrifice bunts as Emmanuel took a 4-1 lead.
The Falcons added one back in the bottom of the frame. Senior Taylor Colvin (Lancaster, Mass.) ripped a double to right center to lead off the inning and scored on Grass' single to right field. Emmanuel would add an insurance run in the sixth inning for the 5-2 final.
Game Two
Emmanuel grabbed and early 8-0 advantage after two innings. Sophomore Tianna Dawe (Lynn, Mass.) delivered a 3 RBI double to right center for the big hit of the first inning. In the second inning first year Olivia Conti (Cranston, RI) laced a RBI triple to right field and Julyanna Pacheco (Somerset, Mass.) scored Conti with a single down the left field line.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth inning Forcier continued her hot hand with a triple to right field. A Colvin single to right field would cut the Emmanuel lead to 8-1. Grass belted a 2-run home run in the fifth inning to make it an 8-3 score.
The Falcons added three runs in the bottom of the seventh, when Grass delivered an RBI single up the middle and Julianna Savone (Palm Coast, Fla) followed a batter later with a 2-RBI single to center field but it wasn't enough as the Saints posted the 9-6 win.
Inside the Numbers
· Molly Grass went 3-for-7 with a home run and 4 RBI, while Forcier was 3-for-6 with a triple, an RBI and two walks.
· Webb had the big hits for Emmanuel going 3-for-6 with three RBI, while Dawe had a game best four RBI's in game 2.
· Colvin took the loss in game one, going the distance allowing 5 runs with 4 walks and 4 K's, Megan Long (Greenville, R.I.) earned her second win on the season allowing just one earned run on five hits with nine strikeouts
· Dawe collected the win in game two, covering seven innings allowing six earned runs and nine hits.
Up Next
Emmanuel is now idle until next Saturday, April 3 when they'll host Norwich University at 2:00 PM in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener at Roberto Clemente Field. The Falcons will travel to the Owls of Westfield State on Friday, April 2 for a MASCAC doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
