Dill Lifts Salem State to Overtime Win

SALEM, Mass. -- Zach Dill (Lake Tahoe, Calif.) scored less than a minute into overtime as Salem State came from behind to defeat Southern Maine, 5-4 to claim their first victory of the season (1-5). Dean Hahn (Lancaster, N.Y.) made 32 saves for the Vikings to earn his his first career victory after making his first start. The Huskies slide to 1-7 on the year.

Austin Marini (Hyde Park, Mass.) netted the game's first goal, knocking in a rebound past Hahn at 5:05 of the first. Landyn Greatorex (Reading, Mass.) tied the game for the Vikings, firing a slapshot into the back of the net at 9:48 of the second. However, Mathieu Sabourin (Alexandria, ON, Canada) got behind the Vikings' defense and made it a 2-1 game with a breakaway goal at 12:19 of the second.

Tyler Gardiner (Watertown, Mass.) made it 3-1 in favor of Southern Maine, putting home his own rebound after a great initial save by Hahn at 14:12 as the Huskies entered the third leading 3-1.

Matt Yianacopolus (Wakefield, Mass.) drew Salem State to within a goal at 3-2 early in the third, but Raphael Lajeunesse (Mont- Laurier, QC, Canada) scored on a power-play for Southern Maine to extend the lead to 4-2.

However, Salem State did not quit as Erik Larsson's (Lake Tahoe, Calif.) shorthanded score made it 4-3 at the 7:11 mark of the third before Luke Day (Ottsville, Pa.) tied the game with a power-play goal as the Vikings erased a two-goal deficit for the second time. The two teams battled to a draw the rest of the way to force an overtime period. Dill picked up a loose puck at the blue line and skated in for an uncontested goal, beating netminder Mason Palmer (Cummings, Ga.) with the game-winner just :49 seconds into overtime.  

Palmer made 40 saves for the Huskies, who were outshot by the Vikings, 45-36. Both teams finished 1-for-3 on the power-play.
