Rangers Fall to MCLA Despite Capers' 37

 NEW YORK, N.Y. (January 3, 2011) - Junior Asmar Capers (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) netted a career-high 37 points in a 84-77 loss to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at the final day of the NYU Holiday Classic.

In a game that saw 12 ties and nine lead changes, it was MCLA (9-3) who captured the final lead to hand the Rangers their third consecutive loss. Drew (4-7) got a monster performance from Capers who eclipsed the 30 point mark for the second time this season. He finished the game with 37 points, five rebounds and five steals in 37 minutes of play.

The Trailblazers were able to create a comfortable lead with a 9-3 run beginning at the 3:04 mark. After a pair of free throws from senior Mike Mayes (Linden, N.J./St. Mary's), MCLA was able to convert on two free throws and two layups to open up a nine-point lead with 1:53 remaining. The Trailblazers would respond on each of the Rangers next three made baskets, negating any chance of a comeback.

MCLA hed a 54-23 advantage on the glass and Jon Greenberg was the second-opponent in a row to pull down 17 rebounds. Terrell Brown (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) was the only other Ranger in double figures as he chipped in 14 rebounds and a team-high seven boards.

Drew will dive back into Landmark Conference play this weekend when they travel to Scranton on Saturday and on Sunday afternoon. Both games will are set to tip-off at 4:00 PM.
