Trailblazers fall to Owls in hard fought 2-1 MASCAC matchup

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.  – Westfield State junior forward Paul Soucy scored one goal and assisted on another to lead Westfield State to a 2-1 win over MCLA  in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Shewcraft Field on Friday night.

Westfield scored first as Soucy fired a high cross from the deep left corner that swung in and just under the crossbar at the far post to give Westfield State a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute. Jared O'Connor was credited with an assist.

Westfield took a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute as Soucy slipped a pass to Ryan Morias in the middle of the penalty area, who found the back of the net for a 2-0 Owls lead.

MCLA got one back in the 57th minute, as Rafael Castro served a corner kick from the left corner.  Owls' goalkeeper Tyler Diotalevi leapt to punch away the cross near the back post, but the clear rebounded directly to Jolloh, who volleyed the shot into the open front side of the net.

MCLA got back to back corners with about two minutes to play, but Diotalevi was able to punch one away and save the other to preserve the lead.

Diotalevi finished with eight saves for Westfield.  Sam Edge made three stops for the Trailblazers.

Westfield State is now 4-8-1 overall 2-3 in the MASCAC

MCLA slips to 3-10, 1-4 in the MASCAC.

Westfield State will next be ina action on Wed., October 23 when they host Pine Manor at 7:00 p.m. The Trailblazers will next travel to Keene State on Tuesday.
