Blazers Fall in Overtime to Trailblazers

CHICOPEE, MA - The Trailblazers sent the game into overtime after knocking down a three pointer from just inside the half court line to tie the game 70-70. The Blazers would come up short, 82-74 in extra minutes against the MCLA Trailblazers on Monday night in Picknelly Arena.

How it Happened

The Elms College Men's Basketball team trailed behind MCLA for the first 20 minutes, heading into halftime down 41-28. The Trailblazers hit six three's and hit sixteen FG to help them build their lead over the Blazers. Despite having a higher FG percentage and out rebounding MCLA the Blazers were unable to keep up with the Trailblazers offensive pace. Elms unfortunatly aquired 12 turnovers while the Trailblazers only recorded 5, causing for a lot of the MCLA scoring oportunities. 

The Blazers find their rythm as they start to narrow down the gap between them and MCLA. With the score 50-37 with 14 minutes left in the game, Elms beings to fine the rim and go on a 27-14point run tying up the score 64-64 with a minute left in the game. Elms went 10-12 from the free throw line, capitalizing on 6 free points alone in the last minute giving them of a lead of 70-67 with six seconds left on the clock. With 2 seconds left in the game the Blazers are up 70-67, MCLA is in the bonus with the ball in their possesion out of bounds under their offensive basket. After calling two timeouts back to back the Trailblazers inbound the ball, the Blazers attempt to disrupt the play and with a panicked last resort shot by Reece Racette from just inside the half court line cashes in the three to tie up the game with no time left on the clock. The game heads to a 5 minute overtime, score is 70-70. 

MCLA secured the win after scoring off of two second chance point opportunites and 5 for 8 from the line. Both teams were in double bonus, but the Blazers were unable to capitalize on the free point opportunites and fell to the trailblazers 82-74.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Tahquell Cadle attained a double double with 14 points and 15 rebounds 
  • Jijuan Macklin also register 14 points
  • Teron Griffon went 4-6 from the field, 3-4 from the foul line, registered 8 rebounds and finished the game with 10 points
