Western New England College returns to winning form with road victory over Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Senior guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) and freshman guard Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) combined for 32 points as the Western New England College women's basketball team posted a 59-50 victory over Westfield State Thursday evening (Feb. 11) at the Woodward Center.

The Golden Bears, who had dropped three of their last four contests, raised their record to 13-8 that surpasses last year's win total of 12. The Owls fall to 8-15.

Al-Darraji finished with a game-high 17 points and pulled down five rebounds. Savino tossed-in 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists, and had a pair of steals.

Junior forward Kelly McCormick (Manchester, CT) contributed eight points while sophomore forward Sarah Proper (Coxsackie, NY) chipped-in with six points and seven rebounds.

Westfield State received double digit scoring from junior forward Ashley Finnegan (Worcester, MA) who had 14 points and seven rebounds, and freshman guard Angela Paterson (Nantucket, MA) who netted 13 points coming off the bench.

The Golden Bears' defense did its job well forcing 19 turnovers and holding the hosts to 33.3% shooting from the field.

WNEC also turned the ball over 19 times, but made up for that by shooting 40.8% from the floor and 87.5% from the charity stripe.
