Falcons Sweep On Day Four At Fast Dreams Classic

Defeat Penn College, 6-2 in first game; Collect 8-5 triumph over Keystone in nightcap 

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Fitchburg State softball team swept a pair of games today as the Green and Gold defeated the Wildcats of Penn College, 6-2 in the opener before registering an 8-5 victory against the Giants of Keystone College in the nightcap at the 2020 Fast Pitch Dreams Classic.

How It Happened

In game one, Fitchburg State took a 4-0 advantage in the top of the first as sophomore Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.) singled to left center, while freshman Molly Grass (Rockland, Mass.) and sophomore Lundyn Forcier (Woonsocket, R.I.) added RBI's in the frame.

The Falcons upped their lead (6-1) in the following stanza when Johnson laced a two-run single up the middle to bring in senior McKenzie Lambert (Wilbraham, Mass.) and newcomer Abbie Roderick (Woonsocket, R.I.), resulting in the 6-2, game one victory.

In game two, Fitchburg State grabbed an early 5-0 margin in the top of the first as Lambert, Johnson and Grass notched RBI's, while freshman Sophia Sousa (Dartmouth, Mass.) followed with a two-run single up the middle.

The Green and Gold upped their lead (8-1) in the top of the third when senior Emma Campbell (Goffstown, N.H.) single to right to plate Forcier before Roderick tripled into the right centerfield gap to bring in Campbell as Fitchburg State held on for the 8-5, game two triumph.

  • Johnson paced the Falcons, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI and one run scored
  • Senior Mikayla Harnois (Attleboro, Mass.) improved to 2-0 on the year, allowing one unearned run on two hits with two strikeouts in 5.2 innings of relief for Fitchburg State
  • Fourth meeting with the Falcons 3-1 vs the Giants
  • Roderick led the way for the Green and Gold, finishing 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and one RBI
  • Colvin notched the win for Fitchburg State, allowing just five hits with six K's in 4.1 innings of scoreless relief
