Sullivan notches first collegiate tally for Fitchburg State in MASCAC setback

New Bedford, Mass. – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Hetland Arena.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State grabbed the lead 6:26 into the opening frame as freshman forward Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.) tallied an assisted marker for his third goal on the season for the 1-0 advantage. UMass Dartmouth knotted the score (1-1) late in the stanza with junior Kai Kapossy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) gathering a feed from sophomore Jimmy Pelton (Syracuse, N.Y.) and notching his sixth score on the year.

In the middle frame, the Falcons regained the edge just 1:03 into the period when newcomer Wyatt Wilmshurst (Massena, N.Y.) put a shot into the back of the net for his fourth score of the 2019-20 campaign as senior Christopher Vicario (Cranston, R.I.) assisted on the play.

The Green and Gold upped their lead eight minutes later with sophomore Patrick Sullivan (Yorktown, N.Y.) registering his first collegiate goal before the Corsairs cut the deficit to 3-2 as freshman Jake Maynard (St. John, Ind.) took a pass from junior Dillon Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) and firing a shot inside the near post for his third score of the season.

UMass Dartmouth retied the contest (3-3) roughly five minutes into the final frame when newcomer Austin Miller (Meridian, Idaho) netted his second tally on the year. The Corsairs would take its first lead of the contest with 12 minutes left when fellow newcomer Clay Elerbrock (Tega Cay, S.C.) notched his first collegiate goal to make the score 4-3 as the hosts held on for the victory.
