SALEM, Mass. -- Michael Shippee (Seattle, Wash.) and Derek Scoggins (Anchorage, Alaska) each scored a goal and an assist and Salem State goalie Sean Cleary (Barnstable, Mass.) made 30 saves as the Vikings picked up their first win of the season, 4-1 over Framingham State (0-6, 0-5) in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Rockett Arena.
Matt Yianacopolus (Wakefield, Mass.) broke a scoreless tie with a goal at 16:04 of the first as his wrist shot beat Blake Carlson (Clermont, Fla.) at 16:04 of the opening period.
Michael Shippee (Seattle, Wash.) set up Spencer DeRidder (Rochester, N.Y.) with a one-timer as Salem State (1-4, 1-3) increased their lead to 2-0, 11:56 into the second as Cleary came up with multiple key saves to keep the Rams off the scoreboard.
Shippee increased the lead to 3-0 with a power play strike early in the third before Sören Colstrup (Owatonna, Minn.) ended the shutout with a Rams' goal at the 5:53 mark. Derek Scoggins (Anchorage, Alaska) iced the game with his first of the year later in the period as Salem State skated to a three-goal win.
Carlson recorded 30 saves in the loss for Framingham State.
