Falcons Fall in OT to Greyhounds

The Fitchburg State ice hockey team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the Greyhounds of Assumption University on Tuesday evening at the Worcester Ice Center.

How It Happened

The Falcons notched the first goal of the game at the 2:05 mark. The Green and Gold broke out of the zone with a two-on-one as junior Cole Archambeault (Leominster, Mass.) received the return pass from newcomer Jeremy Maillet (Leominster, Mass.) for his third goal of the season.

Assumption tied the score at 17:41 with a goal from Mike D'Ambrosio (Centreville, Md.). Michael Zampanti (Winthrop, Mass.) and Colin Philippon (Salem, NH) added the assists.

After two scoreless periods, the Greyhounds scored the game-winner 49 seconds into overtime. Graduated student Christopher Stalmok (Paxton, Mass.) potted an unassisted tally for his fourth goal on the year.


Inside the Numbers

  •                 Assumption held the advantage in shots (49-45), and were 0-for-3 on the power-play.
  •                 The Falcons were 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
  •                 Freshman Max Macchioni (North Kingstown, RI) posted 47 saves in the setback,
    Greyhound netminder Michael Hauswirth (Lincoln, RI) stopped 44 shots for his first win of the season.
