Kopacz, Alves and Kozikoski lift Fitchburg State to non-conference victory

Albany, N.Y. – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team defeated the Gators of Sage College, 14-7 this afternoon in non-conference action from the ACP Field on the campus of the Albany College of Pharmacy.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 14, Sage 7

Records: Fitchburg State (2-1) | Sage (0-2)

How It Happened

Fitchburg State raced out to a 4-0 advantage on a pair of goals by senior Nicole Kopacz (Tewksbury, Mass.) and one score each from junior Madison Alves (Braintree, Mass.) and senior Tracy Long (Georgetown, Mass.).

Sage responded when freshman Caroline Musinski (Bennington, Vt.) netted a pair of markers to cut the deficit to 5-2, but the Falcons counter with tallies by Long and newcomer Eva Kozikowski (Portsmouth, N.H.) for the 7-2 margin going into the break.

Following the intermission, the Gators notched the first score of the second half as Musiinski collected her second score of the contest (7-3). Fitchburg State upped their lead to 10-3 on goals from sophomore Julia Miele (South Hadley, Mass.), Kopacz and freshman Gabrielle Scibilia (Haverhill, Mass.).

That's as close as the Falcons would get though as theulia Pride closed out the contest on an 8-0 run, led by Anselmo and Ringuette with two goals each, while Nadeau capped the scoring for the visitors, resulting in the 20-8 final.

Sage battled back, cutting the lead to 12-6 on markers by sophomore Paige Stewart (Johnstown, N.Y.), junior Sophia Keravich (Barrington, N.H.) and senior Brittany Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) before the Green and Gold secured the victory as Kozikowski closed out the scoring with her third goal on the afternoon, resulting in the 14-7 final.
