Falcons Defeated By Bears, 88-66

Bridgewater, Mass. The Fitchburg State Men's Basketball team dropped an 88-66 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Tinsley Center.

How It Happened

1st half

Bridgewater State took a 7-0 lead to start the game as senior Dimitri St. Louis (Brockton, Mass.), sophomore Alan Pettway (Worcester, Mass.) and senior Ryan Carney (Easton, Mass.) netted buckets before Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 14-8 on an Anthony Diaz (Harrisburg, Penn.) basket.

The Bears upped their margin to 28-16 on a pair of free-throw from sophomore David Laine (Bourne, Mass.), but the Falcons answered back with a Charles Doss (Fitchburg, Mass.) layup to make the score 30-24.

Fitchburg State chipped the lead to 41-35 when freshman Toskany Abreu (Beverly, Mass.) sank a pair from the charity stripe before Pettway answered back for Bridgewater State with a jumper for the 43-35 advantage going into the break.

Following the intermission, Bridgewater State extended its lead (50-37) on a Jonathan Mercado (Lynn, Mass.) three ball before Fitchburg State responded with Doss layup. The Bears answered back as senior Rayshon Ward (Fayetteville, N.C.) registered a bucket, but senior Jordan Jones (Worcester, Mass.) connected on back-to-back baskets for the Falcons to cut the lead to 61-45.

Trailing 75-50, the Green and Gold would get a layup from Doss to make the score 75-52, but the Bears answered as Carney converted a free throw (78-52).Fitchburg State battled back with Doss registering seven straight points, while newcomer Xavier Betancourt (Tampa, Fla.) adding a layup before Bridgewater State would secure the victory as St Louis hit a jumper, resulting in the 88-66 final.
