Peguero-Flores Leads Blazers To Road Win At MCLA
North Adams, MA- Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, MA) scored 27 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to lead the Elms College women's basketball team past the MCLA Trailblazers 63-57 in non-league action inside the Amsler Campus Center. The Blazers improve to 2-5 on the season.
Elms led 17-13 after one quarter of play. The Blazers clamped down on MCLA in the second quarter as they outscored the Trailblazers 18-9 to take a 35-22 lead into halftime. Elms' Peguero-Flores was hot during the opening two quarters of play. She led all scorers with 15 first half points on 7-10 shooting. Elms turned over MCLA 12 times in the half and held them to just 28% shooting.
The Blazers seemed to put the game away in the third quarter as they built a 17 point lead at 47-30, but MCLA would rally a bit in the fourth quarter. With Elms leading 51-39 after a pair of FT's, MCLA would make a run.
The Trailblazers would come out in the fourth quarter with a ton of energy, and start to claw their way back into the game, cutting the Blazer lead down to nine. A big offensive rebound from Shannon Cullen (Brookfield, CT) would lead to a Sarah Clark layup off a Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, CT) assist, pushing the lead back to double digits. MCLA would continue to try and rally, but the Blazer lead was too much to overcome
Peguero-Flores was 11-16 from the floor for her 27 point effort. She also secured 18 rebounds in the win. LeBlanc chipped in with 12 points for Elms. She had a great floor game adding 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.
The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday 12/10 when they travel to Mount Holyoke at 6PM.
