Salem State Dispatches Curry 60-38

SALEM, Mass. - Courtney Paschal (Waltham, Mass.) finished with 12 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks as the Salem State Vikings defeated the Curry Colonels 60-38 on Saturday afternoon at Twohig Gymnasium. Salem State improves to 2-2 on the season while Curry drops to 1-6 on the year.

The Vikings opened the first quarter on a 7-0 run forcing a Curry timeout. Salem State made it difficult for the Colonels to get good looks at the rim, who began 0-5 from the field.

With 6:33 left in the second quarter, the Vikings' lead reached 14 points when Mia Crawley (Hyannis, Mass.) scored a layup on a fastbreak. Curry College chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to 27-20 as Jessica Brundage (Abington, Mass.) made a bucket inside.

The Vikings led 32-21 at halftime. Salem State shot 35.7% (FG 10-28) from the field while the Colonels shot 22.2% (FG 6-27) from the floor.

Crawley led the half in points with eight (FG 4-5) and grabbed three rebounds.

The Vikings outscored Curry 17-3 in the third quarter. Paschal scored nine points in the quarter by hitting a three and getting to the free-throw line.

Salem State's largest lead in the game was 26 in the fourth quarter as they went ahead 54-28 with 8:10 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Salem State shot 31% (FG 18-58) from the field and Curry College went 21.1% (FG 12-57) for the game. The Vikings converted on 32% (FG 8-25) of their three-pointers while the Colonels struggled shooting from deep going 0-16.

Salem State's Crawley finished with nine points (FG 4-5) and seven rebounds. Curry College's Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) posted seven points (FG 1-7) and five rebounds.
