Western New England College falls to Fitchburg State after tough shooting night

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Junior guard Kelley Rogers (Lowell, MA) came off the bench to score 15 points to lead the Fitchburg State women's basketball team to a 52-44 victory over Western New England College Tuesday night (Dec. 8) at the Recreation Center.

Junior forward Melissa Proffitt (Hubbardston, MA) added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds as the Falcons improved their record to 3-4.

The Golden Bears led 26-25 at halftime but couldn't maintain their slim lead after making a season high 29 turnovers.

Senior forward Caitlin Powers (Scotia, NY) was a bright spot for WNEC with 10 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. She made four of her nine field goal attempts.

Sophomore forward Sarah Proper (Coxsackie, NY) pulled down a game high 12 rebounds.

Leading scorer senior guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) grabbed seven rebounds, but was held to eight points.

It was a tough shooting night for the visitors who made only 31.5% of their shots from the field, and 7-of-17 free throw attempts for 41.2%.

Fitchburg also struggled from the field (34.5%) and foul line (55.0%), and committed 25 turnovers.

Western New England College is now 3-3.
