Field Hockeys Falls to Anna Maria, 5-0

PAXTON, Mass. – The Anna Maria College field hockey team posted a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Thursday afternoon at AMCAT Field.

The host AMCATS improve to 2-5 on the season, while the visiting Bears fall to 0-5.

Five different student-athletes scored for Anna Maria, including senior midfielder Allyson Shaw (Holden, Mass.) who also dished out three assists.

The AMCATS scored three times in the first quarter including a goal by junior defender Chayna Bingham-Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass.) just 29 seconds into the contest. Anna Maria also received first period goals from senior forwards Anne Melanson (Grafton, Mass.) and Lauren Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.).

Freshman forward Calli McLaughlin (Rutland, Mass.) found the back of the net at the 12:02 mark of the second quarter to make it a 4-0 game at the break. Shaw completed the scoring 4:14 into the final period off an assist from Bingham-Hendricks.

The AMCATS, who had scored just one goal over the first six games of the season, finished with a 19-8 shot advantage for the game as well as a 13-7 edge in penalty corner attempts.

Anna Maria freshman goalkeeper Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, Mass.) turned aside four shots to record her first career win and shutout. Senior netminder Jillian Delaney (Foxborough, Mass.) made ten saves between the pipes for the Bears in the setback.

Bridgewater State also received a defensive save from sophomore defender Annabelle Boudreau (Halifax, Mass.).

Junior forward Olivia Ahlman (Halifax, Mass.) recorded three of the Bears' eight shots.

The AMCATS host Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Johnson & Wales University on Saturday morning at ten. The Bears are off until next Wednesday when they entertain Little East Conference (LEC) rival Worcester State University at 4:30.
