Falcons Defeated By Rams, 77-51
Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Basketball team dropped a 77-51 decision to the Rams of Framingham State University this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic (MASCAC) action from the Recreation and Athletics Center.

How It Happened
1st quarter
Fitchburg State jumped out to an early 9-2 margin on a three-balls from seniors Emma Thomson (York, Maine) and Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, N.H.) and a bucket by junior Payton Holmes (Carver, Mass.).
Framingham State cut the deficit to 14-11 on a Flannery O'Connor (Amesbury, Mass.) layup before the Falcons upped their margin (16-11) as sophomore Jadelen Harold (Nantucket, Mass.) hit a jumper. The Rams would close out the quarter with a three-pointer from junior Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.) to make the score 16-14.
2nd quarter
Framingham State grabbed the lead (20-18) on an O'Connor layup, but Fitchburg State knotted the score at 20-20 with senior Catherine Coppinger (Boston, Mass.) notching a basket. The Rams went on a 14-0 run late in the frame, capped by a pair of free-throws by senior Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.) for the 36-24 advantage, but Marazzi connected on a two from the charity stripe to cut the lead to 36-26 going into the break.
3rd quarter
Following the intermission, the two teams traded buckets with O'Day connecting on a bucket for Framingham State, while Coppinger notched the basket for Fitchburg State (40-30). The Falcons responded with a 10-0 run with Marazzi, Coppinger, Harold and Holmes knocking down buckets to cut the deficit to 44-40, but freshman Katty Haidul (Wakefield, Mass.) answered with a layup for the Rams for the 51-44 edge going into the final frame.
4th quarter
The Green and Gold chipped the lead to 55-47 on a trey from junior Samantha Maglione (Bolton, Mass.) before the Rams secured the victory with newcomer Gwendolyn Carpenter (Ashley Falls, Mass.) connecting on a three-pointer, resulting in the 77-51 final.
Inside the Numbers
- Falcons were led by Marazzi with a team-best 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block
- Coppinger added 12 points, eight caroms, four assists, one steal and one block for Fitchburg State
- For the Rams, O'Connor finished with a game-leading 19 points and 12 rebounds
