Falcons Fall To Lancers, 6-0 In MASCAC Quarterfinal Round Action

Hemmings turns aside seven shots for Fitchburg State in setback

Worcester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to the third seed Lancers of Worcester State in quarterfinal round action of the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Soccer Post-Season tournament this afternoon at Coughlin Field.

How It Happened

Worcester State took the lead in the eighth minute of play as senior Tsara LeBlanc (Gardner, Mass.) gathered a feed from freshman Haley Ferrin (North Attleboro, Mass.) and connected on her fourth tally on the season for the 1-0 edge.

The Lancers doubled their advantage (2-0) midway through the frame when junior Ali Maldonado (Rutland, Mass.) deposited a shot inside the far post for her 11th marker of the year. Fitchburg State's best scoring chance of the half occurred in the 37th minute of action with senior Natalie Arsenault (Ashburnham, Mass.) heading a ball on frame, but Worcester State keeper Ashley Spellman (Lancaster, Mass.) turned the shot aside to preserve the 2-0 lead going into the break.

Following the intermission, Worcester State upped its lead at the 53:35 as junior Maddie Fong *Norton, Mass.) netted her sixth marker of the 2019 campaign for the 3-0 margin before Maldonado added her second tally on the afternoon, resulting in the 6-0 final.
