Men's Ice Hockey Tripped Up by Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team saw its losing streak extend to five games on Thursday night with a 5-1 loss to Plymouth State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Hanaway Rink.

With the loss, Worcester State drops to 5-10-1 overall on the season and 3-7-0 in the MASCAC.

The scoresheet remained untouched at the end of one period, with neither team finding the penalty box or the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes. Worcester State held a narrow 9-7 edge in shots on goal in the frame.

Both offenses came to life in the second, with the Panthers breaking the ice at the 3:16 mark on Leo Stolpe's seventh goal of the season. The Lancers had a quick answer just under three and a half minutes later, as freshman Deiter Stange (Niles, Ill.) netted his first goal of the season to even the score at 1-1. Stange took a feed from a falling Mark Revniaga (Nahariya, Israel) in the high slot and ripped a wrist shot over the glove hand side of the Plymouth State netminder.

Stange's tally would prove to be the only offense mustered by the Lancers in the contest, as Plymouth State netted two more goals in the second and two in the third to secure the 5-1 victory.

Worcester State freshman goaltender Nevin Tardif (Dunstable, Mass.) took the loss on the evening, making 15 saves.

The Lancers will be back in action on Saturday at Amherst College. Puck drop from Orr Rink is slated for 3 p.m.
