UMass Dartmouth Trips Salem State 9-8

Dartmouth, Mass. -- Marissa McClellan scored three goals, but UMass Dartmouth outscored Salem  State 7-4 in the second half to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Vikings Saturday at Cressy Field. The Corsairs move to 2-2 on the season while Salem State slips to 1-2.  

Salem State scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-0 lead in the first half. However, a pair of scores by Sam Muir in the final 11:01 cut the deficit to just two before halftime. Kirsten Bradley scored the opening goal for the Vikings before Tara McLaughlin and McClellan each netted free position shots a minute and a half apart. Rose Sullivan capped the scoring for the Vikings at the 14:21 mark. Salem State held a 13-9 advantage in shots at halftime.

The Corsairs stormed out with four straight goals in the opening five and a half minutes of the second to take a 6-4 lead. Bella Mancini scored three of the goals before McLaughlin added a free position goal to cut the deficit to 6-5 with 21:48 remaining. Sam Muir answered for the Corsairs before two goals by McClellan and an unassisted goal by Amanda Bradley regained the lead for Salem State with 13:20 left. Beatriz Tavares tied the score for UMass Dartmouth at the 9:34 mark and then scored the game-winner with 3:07 left on a free position shot.

Bridget Harrington made nine saves to earn the win. Charlotte Orth stopped sevenn shots in the loss.
