Lamprey makes nine saves in LEC setback

Danbury, Conn. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to the Colonials of Western Connecticut State University this evening in Little East Conference (LEC) action from the Western Athletic Complex.

How It Happened

Western Connecticut State grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 10:27 mark as junior Kimberly Brower (Mahopac, N.Y.) gathered a feed from senior Carly Matasavage (Middlebury, Conn.) and found the back of the net for her fourth goal on the season.

The Colonials doubled their margin (2-0) minutes later when Brower notched her second tally of the contest before Western Connecticut State upped its advantage in the 22nd minute of action on a goal from senior Morgan Matthews (Bethel, Conn.).

Fitchburg State threatened in the 51st minute of action as junior Chloe Gladu (North Reading, Mass.) put a shot on frame, but Western Connecticut State goaltender Samantha Ripegno (Stamford, Conn.) denied the scoring chance, resulting in the 5-0 final.

This evening's contest will mark the 14th meeting between the two squads in the sport of field hockey with the Falcons 8-6 all time when taking on the Colonials

Western Connecticut State has won the last three matchups with Fitchburg State, including a 5-2 decision last season at Elliot Field

Western Connecticut State held an 18-2 advantage in shots, while also holding an 8-3 edge in penalty corners 

Freshman Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) stopped nine shots for Fitchburg State in the setback

Junior Neve Manion (Newington, Conn.) and Ripegno made one save each for Western Connecticut State.
