Fitchburg State Beats Salem State 3-0

Fitchburg, Mass. – Salem State was beaten 3-1 by Fitchburg State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon from the Wallace Civic Center. The Falcons improve to 8-5-2, 5-1-2 MASCAC while Salem State slips to 2-11-2, 2-6-0 MASCAC.

Salem State grabbed a 1-0 lead 12:17 into the contest as freshman Spencer DeRidder (Rochester, N.Y.) gathered a feed from senior Trey Olson (Omaha, Neb.) and newcomer Earmonn Miller (Victoria, B.C.) and found the back of the net for his second tally on the season.

Fitchburg State knotted the score (1-1) two minutes later with freshman Joshua Miller (Saint Augustine, Fla.) netting his first collegiate score of an assist from senior Christopher Vicario (Cranston, R.I.). The Falcons took a 2-1 advantage with just under a minute and a half remaining in the first period when newcomer Rece Bergeman (Newark, Del.) connected on his third marker of the 2019-20 campaign.

Following a scoreless middle frame, the Green and Gold upped their lead at the 6:30 mark of the third stanza as freshman Anthony Ceolin (Simsbury, Conn.) received a pass from classmate Adam Kusior (Tecumseh, ONt.) and senior Dean Zerby (Harrisburg, Penn.) and deposited the puck inside the near post for his third score on the year for the 3-1 edge.

Junior Brian McGrath (Worcester, Mass.) stopped 33 shots for the Falcons while senior Sean Clancy (Barnstable, Mass.) made 44 saves for the Vikings.
