BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior forward Alana Vincent (Taunton, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Bridgewater State University women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over visiting Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 1-3 on the season, while the Saints fall to 1-4.

Sophomore midfielder Cassie Brown (Augusta, Maine) potted her first collegiate goal to give the Bears the 1-0 lead in the 35th minute. Vincent served a corner kick into the box and Brown headed the ball off a Emmanuel defender and inside the left post.

Vincent scored on a breakaway off a header pass from classmate Emma Sanders (Seekonk, Mass.) in the 70th minute to make it a 2-0 game. Sanders long header from midfielder went to the foot of Vincent who broke free and slipped a shot inside the left post. The goal marked Vincent's first of the season and 18th of her career.

The Bears finished with a 21-6 shot advantage as well as a 10-6 edge in corner kick attempts.

BSU senior netminder Kellie Souza (Wilmington, Mass.) made two saves to record her first shutout of the season and third of her career. Souza made an outstanding leaping stop off a shot by junior Sydney Allen (Charlestown, R.I.) in the 12th minute to keep the Saints off the board.

Senior goalkeeper Lexi Gawron (South Hadley, Mass.) turned aside six shot in just under 73 minutes of action for the Saints, while freshman Alyssa Crugnale (Middleton, Mass.) stopped the only shot she faced in relief of Gawron.

The Bears' five-game home stand continues on Wednesday afternoon when they entertain Salve Regina University at 4:30. The Saints travel to Lasell University on Wednesday for a four o'clock Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game with the Lasers.
