Falcons Earns Split On Day Three At Fast Dreams Classic

Register 10-2 triumph in the opener; Edged 3-0 in the nightcap 

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Fitchburg State softball team earned a split on the day three of their annual spring trip to Myrtle Beach as the Falcons defeated the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph (CT)  in their first game on the day before falling 3-0 to the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen in the nightcap.

How It Happened

In game one, Fitchburg State took a 5-1 advantage in the top of the fourth as freshman Molly Grass (Rockland, Mass.) singled up the middle to bring in classmate Madison Mantegani (Bellingham, Mass.), while fellow freshman Sarah Cahill (Mansfield, Mass.) ripped a bases clearing triple into the right centerfield gap.

The Falcons extended their margin (7-2) in the follow frame with sophomore Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.) lacing an RBI double down the left field line before sophomore Lundyn Forcier (Woonsocket, R.I.) added a sacrifice fly.

The Green and Gold secured the win in the top of the sixth, scoring three more runs when newcomer Abbie Roderick (Woonsocket, R.I.) notched a run scoring single, while Johnson collected her second RBI double on the day, resulting in the 10-2, game one final.

In game two, Rhode Island College grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as senior Kelsey Burgess (North Providence, R.I.) drew a bases loaded walk. The Anchorwomen upped their margin (3-0) in the top of the fifth when senior Amber Wainwright (Taunton, Mass.) blasted a two-run home run to left.

Fitchburg State threatened in the bottom of seventh as senior Mikayla Harnois (North Attleboro, Mass.) and classmate Emma Cambell (Goffstown, N.H.) reached base, but RIC hurler Madison Reis (Warren, R.I.) got the final two outs of the contest, resulting in the 3-0, game two final.
