Vikings Defeat Pride 4-1

SALEM, Mass. - Jillian Danton's (Arlington, Mass.) two goals propelled the Salem State Vikings to a 4-1 win over the Regis Pride on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Vikings improve to 4-2 on the season while the Pride slip to 1-4.

In the first quarter, the Vikings scored off a corner as Allison Couillard (Tewksbury, Mass.) passed it ahead to Danton, who tipped it home, giving Salem State a 1-0 lead. The goal marks Danton's third goal of the season.

The Vikings led 2-0 when Melanie Mason (Beverly, Mass.) found Dalton wide open in front of all the defenders and the freshman tapped the ball in with eight minutes remaining in the second quarter.

At halftime, Salem State was ahead 2-0. The Vikings took five shots with four on target, with Regis registering one shot. Regis broke through in the third with their first goal. Battling for the ball in front of the Vikings' net. Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) corralled the ball and put it in for the score to cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the fourth quarter, however, Salem State took another corner and Couillard delivered a pass to Danton for a quick shot. They connected again putting the Vikings up 3-1. With 12 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Curtin closed the scoring with an assist from Marissa Laganas (Beverly, Mass.) extending Salem State's lead to 4-1.

For the game, the Vikings led in shots with seven to the Pride's attempted three. Salem State also had an advantage in corners (11-6).

McCarthy earned the win at net (4-2) by only allowing one goal. The Pride's goalie Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine) took the loss (1-4) conceding four goals.
