Four Starters Grab Double Figures in 78-61 Win over Framingham State

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 18, 2022) -  The Western New England men's basketball team took care of the visiting Rams of Framingham State University, taking down the Rams 78-61 behind double digit scoring four starters for the Golden Bears in the Hampton Inn WNE Tip-Off Tournament.

How it Happened:
Jake Harrison and Brian Geitner would open the scoring for the Golden Bears connecting on a free throw and a layup to get Western New England off and running early. The pesky Rams would stay close in the early goings of the game as Framingham's Julius Goines and Tevin Charles would collect the first points of the game. Harrison would continue to heat up for Western New England in the open half, knocking down a three-point shot to get WNE an 8-6 lead. Western New England would begin to put it together when Gavin Greene and Tim Restall combined for series of points for the Golden Bears as WNE began to mount a lead. Geitner would rain in a triple from deep with 14:22 to play in the half. WNE would take their first double digit lead of the half when Cody Palazzeli would connect drop deep, giving the Golden Bears a 24-11 lead. After scoring lulled, Max Jones would get on the board for WNE for the first time on the night on a made layup as WNE would take a 13-point lead. FSU would cut the Golden Bears lead to nine with just over two minutes to play, though Jake Harrison would connect on a layup before Nate Kasper would deliver two free throws to give the Golden Bears an eight-point lead at the break.

Gavin Greene opened the scoring in the second half for the Golden Bears as WNE would continue to role on the offensive end. Framingham would get within seven of a tie, though that would be as close as the Rams would get on the night as Western New England began to run away with the game on their home court. Brian Geitner would connect from distance at the 2:30 mark into the second half, while Tim Restall and Jake Harrison helped Western New England take a 16-point lead with 15 minutes to play in the half. Andrew Byfield would collect points that extended Western New England's lead to its largest lead of the game, which stood at 21 points with half the game remaining in the second half. A Jake Harrison slam would put the dagger into the Rams with nine minutes to play. Western New England would wrap up the rest of the game between baskets from Gavin Greene, and a Brett Hutchinson three ball to wrap up a 78-61 win over Framingham State in the Hampton Inn WNE Tip-Off Tournament.

  • Gavin Greene connected on 6/7 field goals while making both free throw attempts, scoring 14 total points on the night.
  • Jake Harrison collected a team high 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Bears while also picking up six assists.
  • Tim Restall and Brian Geitner both registered 17 points each for WNE, shooting a combined 12/21.
  • Framingham State turned the ball over 15 times, while WNE turned the ball over just eight times.
