Spadafore nets first collegiate tally for Fitchburg State in LEC setback
Fitchburg Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team suffered a tough 2-1 setback to the Rams of Framingham State University this evening in Little East Conference (LEC) action at Elliot Field.

How It Happened
Framingham State opened the scoring at the 5:41 mark as junior Marissa Dias (Attleboro, Mass.) received a pass from freshman Mallory Weir (Acton, Mass.) and blasted a shot inside the near post for the 1-0 margin.
The Rams nearly doubled their edge with seven minutes left in the half when newcomer Mallory Weir (Bear, Del.) put a shot on frame, but freshman Sophia Morse (West Bridgewater, Mass.) cleared the ball off the goal line for a defensive save to keep the score at 1-0 going into the intermission.
Following the break, Fitchburg State knotted the score (1-1) in the 37th minute of action with freshman Lena Spadafore (Lunenberg, Mass.) gathered a feed from senior Olivia Grant (Portsmouth, N.H.) and deposited a shot into the back of the net for her first collegiate tally.
Framingham State answered back with just over two minutes left in the contest when junior Maddy Pimental (Dartmouth, Mass.) collected a loose ball off a shot from sophomore Julia Tetreault (Sutton, Mass.) and netted the eventually game-winner, resulting in the 2-1 final.

This evening's contest will mark the 40th meeting between the two squads in field hockey with the Falcons 22-15-3 all-time when taking on the Rams
Fitchburg State had won the previous contests with Framingham State, including a 3-2, overtime decision as season at Elliot Field
Both teams finished with nine shots apiece, while the Rams held a slim 6-5 edge in penalty corners
Freshman Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) stopped five shots for Fitchburg State in the setback
