Field Hockey Edged by Eastern Connecticut, 1-0

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University field hockey team edged visiting Bridgewater State University, 1-0, in a Little East Conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Rick McCarthy Field.

The Warriors improve to 4-9 on the season and 3-5 in the Little East, while the visiting Bears fall to 2-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

BSU senior goalkeeper Jillian Delaney (Foxborough, Mass.) turned aside 14 shots on the afternoon to keep the Bears within striking distance. Nine of Delaney's 14 saves came in the second half.

Eastern potted the only goal of the contest 2:27 into the second quarter. Off a penalty corner, junior forward Sydney Hogan (Northford, Mass.) fired a shot towards the net that was redirected into the back of the cage by senior forward Morgan Sanson (Thomaston, Conn.). For Sanson, the goal marked her first of the 2019 campaign.

The Warriors, who dominated field position throughout the contest, had multiple opportunities to add on to the lead, but Delaney's outstanding work between the pipes kept it a one-goal game.

Eastern finished with a 22-4 shot advantage as well as a 12-3 edge in penalty corner attempts.

ECSU junior goalkeeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn.) made four saves to record her fourth win of the season and second shutout.

The Little East schedule continues for both teams on Saturday morning at 11. The Bears entertain the Panthers of Plymouth State University, while the Warriors travel to Worcester State University to take on the Lancers.
