– Sophomore guard Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) scored 27 points as Western New England College captured its own Golden Bears' Women's Hoop Classic title with a 70-63 victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Saturday afternoon (Nov. 20).

Savino made 9-of-15 shots from the field and all seven foul shots, pulled down nine rebounds, and had four steals in earning Tournament MVP honors.

Senior forward Kelly McCormick (Manchester, CT) added 10 points and nine rebounds as the Golden Bears stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 record. Sophomore guard Shelby Van Huysen (Killingworth, CT) and junior guard Kathleen Jasinski (Templeton, MA) each contributed eight points.

Western New England College scored the first five points of the game before the Trailblazers came back to take a 17-10 lead and then a 34-30 advantage at the break. The Golden Bears rallied going ahead for good when freshman guard Shaylyn Sicard (Westfield, MA) scored her only basket of the game to give the hosts a 37-36 lead with 15:25 left.

MCLA (2-1) cut an eight-point deficit to three at 66-63 with five quick unanswered points when senior Hillary Perks (Saugerties, NY) made a basket with 1:55 remaining. WNEC scored the last four points to seal the win.

Junior guard Alie Dobrovoic (Little Falls, NY) had 21 points and five rebounds for the Trailblazers. Sophomore forward Shannon Supczak (Palmer, MA) added nine points (4-of-5 field goals) while junior forward Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY) contributed eight points, six blocks, and five rebounds. Wehner and Dobrovoic both made the All-Tournament Team.

In the third-place game, sophomore forward Rebecca Odim (Brooklyn, NY) led a balanced scoring attack with 10 points as MIT defeated Wilkes (PA) 62-55.

Ten players scored points for the Engineers who picked-up their first win of the season in three outings. Sophomore forward Anna Merrifield (Honolulu, HI) pulled down a game high 17 rebounds to go along with six points and five assists. Sophomore guard Lauren Sascha Burton (Seattle, WA) chipped-in with seven points, six rebounds, three assists, and two blocks to make the All-Tournament Team.

Senior guard Erin Schneider (Colchester, CT) led the Colonels with 17 points while junior guard Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA) had 12 points and eight rebounds to make the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore guard Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA) also netted 12 points for the Colonels (1-2).
