Westfield St. and Beloit Befuddles Eagles

CLERMONT, Fla.- The Juniata softball ball team dropped both games this evening as they fell, 12-3 to Beloit and 9-1 against Westfield St.

Beloit got on the board first as they scored a run in the top of the first. Juniata started off the bottom of the first with Molly Ulrich (Homer, N.Y. / Homer Central) doubling to right center. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa. / State College) singled to left field and then advanced to second and Ulrich scored on an error by the left fielder. Juniata pitching struggled in the second inning as they gave up eight runs to the Buccaneers.

The Eagles added on one run in the fourth and one in the fifth. Juniata couldn't catch up with Beloit as they scored two more runs in the seventh. In the bottom of the fourth, Catherine Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) doubled to right center and Katie Mace (Dornsife, Pa. / Line Mountain) came in to pinch run for Miller. Madison Wrightstone (York Haven, Pa. / Northeastern H.S.) singled to center field and then advanced to second on the throw which brought Mace home. In the bottom of the fifth, Ulrich doubled to right center, the stole third. A fly out to left field allowed Ulrich to score. 

Ulrich went 3-2 with two doubles and two stolen bases. 

Game two saw Westfield St. get an early lead on Juniata. The Owls scored five runs in the first three innings to lead, 5-0 against JC. Juniata got on the board in the top of the fourth after Maggie Peck (Philipsburg, Pa. / Philipsburg Osceola) was walked and Ashley Clark (Saxton, Pa. / Tussey Mountain) doubled to center field to bring Peck home. Westfield St. scored two more runs in the in the fourth and two more in the sixth to win, 9-1. 

Juniata returns to the field tomorrow as they face Bethany (W.V.) at 11:15 AM and Marietta at 1:30 PM.
