Hemmings registers nine saves for Fitchburg State in non-conference setback

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 setback to the Blazers of Elms College in non-conference action this evening from Elliot Field.

Records: Fitchburg State (2-2) | Elms (4-2)

How It Happened

Elms nearly took the lead in the 20th minute of play freshman Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, Mass.) fired a shot on frame, but Falcon keeper Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) was able to turn the shot aside to preserve the 0-0 stalemate, going into the half.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State had a pair of quality scoring chances to start the stanza with senior Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) blasting a shot that Blazer goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) turned away while freshman Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.) riffled a shot that caromed off the near post.

Elms broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 68th minutes of play when senior Jordan Bailey (Monson Mass,) settled a loose ball in front of the net and tucked a shot inside the left post for her first marker on the season for the 1-0 edge as the Blazers held off a late Falcon surge.
