Men's Ice Hockey Blanks Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team stayed perfect in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday night, defeating Framingham State University 5-0 in conference action at Loring Arena.

With the win, Worcester State moves to a perfect 3-0-0 in MASCAC play and 4-1-0 overall. 

Sophomore Brian Smith (Dracut, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Lancers at the 7:38 mark of the first period, with an assist credited to freshman Dieter Stange (Niles, Ill.). It is Smith's third goal in his last two games. 

Sophomores Evan Schieber (Macon, Ga.) and Nick Pennucci (Worcester, Mass.) each scored goals on the man advantage in the second period to help Worcester State take a 3-0 lead through two periods.

Petr Staif (Zruc-Senec, Czech Republic) was the beneficiary of a goal of a Ram defenseman's skate early in the third period, and junior Tim Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) capped the scoring with Worcester State's third power play goal of the game at the 13:32 mark of the third.

In net, sophomore Ryan Hoff (Brockton, Mass.) recorded his first shutout of the season with a 30-save effort.

Worcester State will be back in action on Thursday with a 4:40 p.m. puck drop at home against Plymouth State at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.
