Westfield State Wins Third Straight MASCAC Women's Cross Country Crown
For the third straight year, Westfield State wins the MASCAC Women's Cross Country Crown which was hosted by Worcester State in Deven, Mass. this afternoon.
For the third straight year, Westfield State wins the MASCAC Women's Cross Country Crown which was hosted by Worcester State in Deven, Mass. this afternoon.
The Owls finished with 34 points while second place Bridgewater State was close behind with 42 points. Framingham State had 72 points for third place and Fitchburg State in fourth with 131. Mass. Maritime came in fifth with 142 points while Worcester State MCLA closed out the team standings in sixth and seventh with 160 and 179 points, respectively.
Westfield State earned the team title with their first five all finishing in the top 10. Crossing first for the Owls was Shea Hamel in second place with a 5k time of 19:32. Ariann Lecours and Molly Kennedy weren't far behind in sixth and seventh with a time of 20:34 and 20:43, respectively. Julianne Kelly and Eliza Lee rounded out the top 10 in ninth and 10th with a time of 20:50 and 21:10, respectively all earning All-Conference accolades for their performances.
For Bridgewater State, Naomi Cass was the first finisher across the line to earn 2023 MASCAC Women's Cross Country Individual Champion with a time of 19:10. Along with Cass, Nicole Major grabbed All-Conference honors in third with a time of 20:02 and Lily Valcovic in fifth with a time of 20:14.
Kate Buban of Framingham State was named the 2023 MASCAC Rookie of the Year after she was the top first time performer in eighth place with a time of 20:46.
Skye Goba rounds out the top 10 with an All-Conference fourth place performance. She crossed the line in 20:04.
After helping the Bears to a second place finish, Christine Kloiber of Bridgewater State was voted the 2023 BSN Sports Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
The teams get a week to relax before hitting the course again on Novemeber 11 for the NCAA DIII Regional meets.
